Profile

Daria Hinz is a marine biologist with a B.A. cum laude in Biology, and a Ph.D. in Ocean and Earth Science. During her Ph.D. she gained extensive experience in both laboratory and ship-board biological and microbiological research and is a member of the Royal Society of Biology, the Marine Biological Association of the UK, and a Registered Marine Scientist and member of the Institute of Marine Engineering, Science, and Technology (IMarEST). Daria has worked in the maritime industry for 12 years, first as a Senior Scientist at Brookes Bell, before establishing her own consulting business in 2021. She specialises in the biological systems involved in the marine industry and has carried out extensive work in determining the sources of hull fouling as an expert witness in charterparty disputes. This work involves review of documentation provided well after an incident, practical advice on gathering evidence in cases of an emerging dispute, attendance at in-water cleanings and drydocking surveys of vessel hulls throughout the world, sampling of marine organisms from affected hulls, and inspection of both collected and couriered marine samples.
