Carien DroppersDeputy Secretary General at Paris MoU on Port State Control
Since 1991, Carien Droppers served in consecutive Maritime Officer’s ranks, serving both navigation/deck and engine room duties on board Shell’s crude-, product and lub-oil tankers and LNG-gas carriers.
In 1997 she changed to Jo Tankers to sail on chemical tankers, where she was promoted (company’s 1st female) Chief Officer in 1998.
In 2000 she obtained the highest degree of competency as Master on merchant vessels.
In 2000 she left her sea-going career to join a heavy-lift shipping company as Assistant Fleet manager and Designated Person Ashore for ISM. In this capacity she set up and introduced the ISM Code and ISO9002 compliant management system in the office as well as onboard. She guided the audits and reviews leading to the successful certification of the company and ships.
In autumn 2001 she joined the international Secretariat of the Paris Memorandum of Understanding on Port State Control as Assistant Secretary. In 2004 Carien Droppers was appointed Dep. Secretary General of the Paris MOU, supporting the Secretary General in the effective operation of the agreement between all 27 maritime Administrations, as well as the preparation of meetings and the exchange of information.
