Head of Environmental Standards Division at US Coast Guard
Rich Everett is an Environmental Protection Specialist in the Environmental Standards Division of the Office of Operational and Environmental Standards (CG-OES) at U. S. Coast Guard Headquarters in Washington, DC. He provides scientific and technical assistance in developing regulations and policy on prevention of ship-mediated biological invasions; coordinates the Coast Guard’s research activities on the prevention of biological invasions via the operations of ships; and is technical advisor regarding biological invasions and ballast water management on the U.S. delegation to the International Maritime Organization. Rich holds a BA in Biology (Honors) from the University of California, Santa Cruz, and a Ph. D. in Zoology from the University of California, Berkeley. Prior to his current position, he held research fellowships at the Smithsonian Institution and the Oregon Institute of Marine Biology, and was a Senior Biologist with the U. S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
