Katherine Avelino, better known in the industry as Karen, has been an active speaker/participant at various international maritime fora. She is currently the Executive director of Business Development and the Senior Vice President of the Cruise Division of Philippine Transmarine Carriers, Inc., one of the biggest Crew Management and Crew Agency organization in the Philippines.

Karen has over 16 years of Maritime experience, covering Business Development, Training, Crew Development and Supply for Cruise line companies. She is currently the President of the Philippine Association of Maritime Training Centers, Inc., Board of Trustee of the Filipino Shipowners Association, Board of Director of RCM, and a member of The Women in Shipping Panel, formed by the International Chamber of Shipping, UK, promoting gender equality and diversity in the maritime industry.
