Alex KempPartner at HFW
Alex works predominantly on "wet" disputes including salvage, wreck removal, groundings, collisions, fires and piracy with a particular interest in container ship casualties of all types. Such disputes often require advice in respect limitation of liability, jurisdiction, insurance coverage and interlocutory applications.
Alex is also involved in advising on contractual issues arising out of casualties including charterparty/VSA/slot charter disputes and marine insurance disputes of all kinds. He has been involved in a number of reported High Court and Court of Appeal cases.
Alex has spent time in the firm's Dubai office and has undertaken secondments to the legal departments of an oil major and a London insurer.
Alex is an Associate member of the Association of Average Adjusters. He has been on the Association of Average Adjusters' Committee of Management and has recently been involved in the UK Chamber of Shipping's working group on general average in the build up to the 2016 revisions to the York Antwerp Rules.
