Sebastian Sala

Head of Innovation & Energy Management at Carnival Maritime


Sebastian Sala joined Carnival Maritime in 2015 as the Head of Innovation and Energy Management, when the company was first established in Hamburg. In his current role he is responsible for developing and improving the energy efficiency of the Costa and AIDA fleets of cruise ships through innovative operational and technical solutions. During his career he has worked closely with improving the energy and environmental efficiency of both new build designs as well as ships in operation. Various projects have familiarized Sebastian with the different properties of ocean going vessels such as cruise ships, RoRo/RoPax ships, heavylift multipurpose carriers and container ships. In his past positions, he has managed energy and environmental efficiency at AIDA Cruises, developed and implemented a fully certified ISO 50001 energy management system for Rickmers Ship Management and contributed in the development of the EEDI for RoRo/RoPax vessels at Deltamarin. Sebastian Sala studied energy technology and environmental protection in the Helsinki University of Technology and holds a M.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering. He has been a speaker on energy and environmental efficiency in various conferences, conducted several crew trainings and acted as a guest lecturer at the Marine Institute of the University of Strathclyde.
