Kevin serves as the IHMA representative to both the IMO and IALA. Prior to taking these roles, Kevin served as VTS Manager at the Port of London Authority overseeing the largest and most diverse VTS area in the UK following service in the merchant navy as a Navigating Officer.
Kevin holds an Honours Degree in Law, a Higher National Diploma in Nautical Science a Postgraduate Diploma in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector in addition to the full range of IALA qualifications as an International Aids to Navigation Manager, VTS Operator, VTS Supervisor and VTS Trainer qualifications.
In addition to his IHMA roles, Kevin provides specialist consultancy through the London Maritime Group in the effective implementation of IALA standards related to Aids to Navigation and VTS on a worldwide basis based around operational implementation and planning, capacity building and training.
Kevin has also served as the United Kingdom representative and Chairman of the ESPO Marine Affairs Committee in addition to serving on domestic committees including UK Safety of Navigation and UK VTS Policy Steering Groups. Additionally, Kevin has served as an ESPO representative at European Commission Expert Group meetings on the implementation of the Reporting Formalities Directive for ships.
Kevin has had direct experience of the establishment and management of an Accredited VTS Training Organisation delivering the full range of IALA Model Courses and also serves as an IALA World Wide Academy VTS Expert to assist in VTS capacity building projects and missions world wide in addition to being a Younger Brother of the Corporation of Trinity House.
