Captain Kevin Richardson served as Chief Harbour Master for the Port of Dover, UK, and retired in March 2014 following 27 years at the Port. He is currently President of the International Harbour Masters’ Association, having also served as President of the UK Harbour Masters’ Association for five years. One of the major achievements under his presidency of UKHMA was the introduction of the UK Certificate for Harbour Masters, launched in 2013, which is flourishing. Captain Richardson worked in all areas of Marine and Terminal operations at the Port of Dover, the busiest RoRo port in Europe and the second largest cruise port in the UK, which also handles a small but flourishing reefer cargo trade. Prior to working at Dover, Captain Richardson was 19 years deep sea in all deck officer ranks up to Master.
Captain Richardson has extensive experience acting as Designated Person under the UK’s Port Marine Safety Code and also acted as Designated Person Ashore under the ISM Code. He has auditing experience of Marine Safety Management Systems and is a qualified Auditor to ISO and ISM standards.
