Susan GourvenecProfessor of Offshore Geotechnical Engineering at University of Southampton, UK
Susan Gourvenec is the Professor of Offshore Geotechnical Engineering at the University of Southampton in the Faculty of Engineering and Physical Sciences and Deputy Director of the Southampton Marine and Maritime Institute.
Susan joined the University of Southampton in September 2017 following 16 years at the Centre for Offshore Foundation Systems at the University of Western Australia and has retained a visiting appointment at UWA through the transdisciplinary Oceans Institute. Prior to moving to Australia, Susan was at Cambridge University following a PhD from the University of Southampton and undergraduate degree from Queen Mary and Westfield College, London.
Susan is co-authored the book “Offshore Geotechnical Engineering”, has chaired and co-edited the proceedings of international symposia, and authored of over 100 papers. Susan works collaboratively with industry partners through research projects and through her role as a consultant to industry. She is a Fellow of the Institution of Engineers Australia and Fellow of the Institution of Civil Engineers in the UK. She is an elected member of the International Standardisation Organisation (ISO) committee responsible for developing industry standards for offshore geotechnical design.
