Legal Counsel - Compliance at MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company


Mr. Comas Mir is an in-house legal counsel specialised in sanctions compliance at MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company SA (MSC), the second largest container shipping line in the world. He assists on the development of internal sanctions compliance policies and provides legal advice to MSC, its agencies, and affiliates worldwide to ensure compliance with applicable sanctions regulations. In addition, he deals with sanctions-related queries received from corresponding authorities. Previously, he worked as a maritime lawyer in Barcelona (Spain) where he managed all sorts of cargo and insurance claims. He is the coauthor of “The Least -Developed Countries Services Waiver: Any alternative under the GATS?” published by the Goettingen Journal of International Law after he presented this topic at the 2nd Postgraduate and Early Professionals/Academics Network of the Society of International Economic hosted by the University of Goettingen, and the author of “The Scope of art.29 CMR Convention in Spain: willful misconduct and the default equivalent to willful misconduct” published by the Journal for International Trade and Transport Law following his presentation of the topic at the International Conference organized by the University of Rotterdam to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the CMR Convention. Furthermore, he was also a speaker at the 59th Congress of the Union of International Lawyers celebrated in Valencia (Spain) where he addressed the topic of wreck removal.
