Jos van der Meché (1964) obtained his master of laws degree at the University of Groningen in 1989. He began his career in 1991 at the transport insurance company TVM Verzekeringen. In 1996, Jos switched to the legal profession and was admitted to the Rotterdam Bar. Since then he has been working within the Transport & Energy practice group of AKD.
Jos specialises in cargo liability and mainly represents terminal operators, freight forwarders, multimodal carriers, logistics services providers and their insurers, often on multi-jurisdictional matters. He also handles numerous cases in relation to insurance law. Jos is regularly appointed in connection with cross-border disputes involving cargo ownership, arrests, liens and the like.
Jos is a member of the IBA's Maritime & Transport Committee and past Chair of its Land Transport Committee. He is also a member of the International Road Transport Union (IRU) and the Dutch Transport Law Association. He is one of the authors of the book 'CMR: International Carriage of Goods by Road' (2005). He was an editor of the magazine 'Schip en Schade' (Marine Insurance).
