Sarah is qualified as a solicitor and is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers.
Sarah started her career as a shipbroker, attended Southampton University as a mature student obtaining a law degree before returning to shipbroking, moving to in-house claims handling and then taking articles at Holman Fenwick & Willan.
With her experience in trading, broking and law Sarah starting working for P&I Clubs. She has advised on a range of issues including complex cargo claims, newbuilding cancellations, hard fought charterparty disputes and international law concerns such as sanctions.
Sarah has considerable experience of problem solving in a legal context rather than resorting to legal action and has negotiated many settlements for the Club members. She has also run many arbitrations to award, appeal and taken part in mediations.
Now self-employed, Sarah lectures on shipping, international trade, and law for various companies worldwide. She has also been writing modules for various distance learning post graduate diplomas for Universities, reviewing and updating courses, and setting and marking exams.
And in her spare time Sarah trains spaniels.
