Steven HarrisonChief Operating Officer at Port of Tyne
Steven Harrison joined the Port of Tyne in January 2010 as its Chief Operating Officer. He has responsibility for all operational areas of the Port, encompassing conventional and bulk cargoes, cruise and ferry, car terminals and estates. He is responsible for leading and motivating a multi-disciplinary team of 400 staff across the Port’s sites on the north and south banks of the River Tyne near Newcastle in the north east of England.
Initially trained as a Mining Engineer, Steven worked in the mining industry for 20 years, both internationally and in the United Kingdom, before being appointed Managing Director of H J Banks (Mining), where he was responsible for leading the mining business within the Banks Group.
Steven has a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Mining Engineering from the University of Nottingham, he is a member of the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers, and he currently serves as a member of the Board of Newcastle Gateshead Initiative, a destination management and marketing agency for Newcastle Gateshead; a public private partnership working with around 170 private sector partner organisations across Newcastle Gateshead and the wider region.
