Acting Head of Unit for Maritime Safety, Directorate-General for Mobility and Transport, European Commission
Ms Sellier is Deputy Head of Unit and currently acting as Head of the Maritime Safety Unit of the Directorate-General for Mobility and Transport in the European Commission. The unit strives to develop and implement policies and legislation for the promotion of quality shipping and for the prevention of accidents and pollution caused by ships. The unit deals with all aspects of ships' safety, safety of passengers and crews, the training and certification of seafarers, and working conditions on board ships. The unit promotes the technological development of vessel traffic monitoring. It looks after flag and port State responsibilities, and the role of classification societies. The unit also coordinates the Commission's relations with the International Maritime Organisation and draws up the necessary Commission proposals for EU submissions to the IMO, or for Decisions authorising Member States to ratify and/or accept changes to IMO instruments.
Ms Sellier was the Assistant to the Director for General affairs of the Directorate-General for Transport and Energy from 2006 to 2010. Thereafter she was responsible for the European Energy Strategy 2020 and headed the political sector in the Energy Strategy unit in the Directorate-General for Energy. She joined the European Commission in 2004 after having worked as EU-Liaison officer in several NGOs and Brussels-based NGOs networks.
Ms Sellier graduated from the Paris Institute of Political Studies and holds a Master in Modern History and a Master in Development & Humanitarian aid.
