Natalie Carter is a Research Associate in the Environment Society and Policy Group at the University of Ottawa, in Ottawa, Canada, and the Straight Up North Research Group at McMaster University in Hamilton, Canada. Natalie currently leads the community-based research portion of two initiatives spanning the four regions of Arctic Canada. Her research interests and expertise focus on combining Indigenous knowledge and science to support evidence-based policy and decision-making. Natalie spends about ¼ of her time in Arctic communities, co-facilitating participatory mapping, and focus groups, along with local youth community researchers. Through the Arctic Corridors and Northern Voices research project (www.arcticcorridors.ca) Natalie has partnered with communities across Arctic Canada, documenting community-identified impacts and management recommendations for marine vessel traffic. Natalie holds a Ph.D. in Population Medicine (Epidemiology) from the University of Guelph in Guelph, Canada.
