John Abate has over 35 years of very diverse experience in the workplace, including military command appointments, self employment, retail, international logistics and operations. These roles have been in blue chip companies such as Amazon, Maersk and most latterly, Stena. For the past ten years, John has focused within the training space and his current role is the Global Head of Training at Northern Marine Group and director of Clyde Marine Training. The latter is the largest provider of cadets to the UK Merchant Navy and supplier of Training Management Services. John is passionate about driving up safety within industry through a deeper understanding of the difference between compliance and competency; a challenge in the current climate given the pace of change in technology. A crew that is highly competent is safer, more productive and more quality focused. A win for employer, owner and customer.
